Description
This heavy vintage copper & brass teapot or coffee pot or chocolate pot has inscribed on the base the social security number of its previous owner, likely as a theft prevention measure. It comes with a smallish pitcher & lidded sugar container. The set came from the estate of a family with Scandinavian origins, & one thought was that it was a Danish or Dutch coffee pot, handed down from that side of the family. This narrow-at-the-top form with slender protruding handle is indicative of the Arts & Crafts Era (also known as the Mission Era), circa 1880 to 1920, & we believe this piece was made at the latter end of that timeframe. It is also in a style of Mexican copper artists, whose chocolate pots (which are really more like melted chocolate bars) from the 1920s have this same form except with wooden handle on the side. Regardless of its origins, the piece is well rendered with brass rivets & bands that ring the tall pot. It is also in excellent condition for something that is at least 100 years old, having been displayed for decades atop a row of cabinets in kitchen with high ceilings, lending Old World flair to a rustic modern home. The chocolate pot measures about 12-1/2" tall to the tip of the lid, by just under 10" across from handle to spout. The base is 5" in diameter & the top interior is 3" in diameter although wider if you measure the top exterior opening. Weighs about 2.12 pounds alone. The smaller pieces from the set are each about 6" tall with bases 3-1/4" in diameter. The smaller pitcher & bowl add almost two pounds, so combined the entire set is close to five pounds total. The sugar set has some waviness in the top on the bottom side. Like with any old metal, there may be some small dents or dings & a few tarnish spots, which I will let the next owner decide whether to polish or not. Rustic beauty.
