Very old authentic Romanian rug, beginning of the last century, handmade in wool. Elegant red background with beautiful flowers, very delicate. It is a very rare find, very old but in a good shape. This kind of fabric is called cerga in South Romania & it was used for many purposes, practical when it is simple red & also decorative, when it was decorated with flowers & used as bed cover, wall tapestry or lateltly as a rug. It was very popular in 1900 -1945, after that rarely made & used as more elaborated models where made. This one is in perfect condition which is very rare, considering when it was made. 240x145cm This rug is found in South Romania, it was made at the beginning of the last century in wool, with delicare flowers. Very old & rare to find in a good condition. in the South of Romania, years ago, every mom handmade for her daughters beautiful carpets & rugs as dot for their weddings. I grown up with this: every winter, at my grandmother' s house, women from the village, neighbors & relatives, spend the evenings & those long winter nights together, working on beautiful wool rugs or other handmade items. Nowadays the art of handcrafting rugs is almost extinguished. Now, we are trying to discover & put into the modern design context these beauties. This is our story.
