Renowned for his athleticism and ability to field bunts, Harry "The Cat" Brecheen pitched in three World Series, helping the Cardinals to Championships in 1944 and 1946. He was the first lefty in MLB Historyto win three games in a Fall Classic, doing so in 1946. A two-time All-Star, Brecheen won 20 games in 1948 and led the league in ERA (2.24), shutouts (7) and strikeouts (149). Upon his retirement he ranked fifth in wins (128), fourth in winng percentage (.618) and third in shutouts (25) among Cardinals pitchers, and had the second-most wins of any left-hander in franchise history.
