New Mexico Sky Musing, No. 11 ~ Storm Soaring ~ Original contemporary abstract New Mexico landscape painting by artist Dawn Chandler I like this one so much that I used it for a greeting card I sent out to my mailing list a few months ago. I love the color, the energy. The way that curlicue of bird flight rise up from the warm desert earth & follows the underside of that massive cloud. The way those scratched red lines in that cloud shadow suggest steps stairs, echoing the upward movement of birds & cloud. I'm transported to one of those gorgeous midsummer afternoon rainstorms that always so energize me. On the right side of the painting, we get a sense of the storm's passing; the energy is calmer, the clouds have a hint of evening rose to them. All is well. As with other paintings in this series, notice the words ghosted in the background. These descriptive bits of text stem from a journal entry I made in which I wrote about my love affair with the landscape of Northern New Mexico especially that of the Taos area. Look carefully as the words reveal a sort of poetry This painting is painted on sturdy panel & wired on the back for immediate display; the edges/sides of the painting are painted grey This is an original, one-of-a-kind painting by Dawn Chandler.
