This is a regional variation on the Welsh Fan, whose name means "Heart of Wheat". Like other fans, this is a house blessing that is hung above the door to welcome good luck & happiness for all who dwell within. THE STORY OF WHEAT WEAVING: This is a tradition as old as the cultivation of wheat itself. Each harvest, gleanings from the last wheat crop of the year are brought inside for the winter. These are woven into "corn dollies", figures where the spirit of the wheat can live until spring when they are sown back into the soil to continue the growing cycle. All Wheat Weavings are handcrafted, using methods passed down through generations of Weavers. Some of the designs have been made for hundreds of years. Each Wheat Weaving is carefully packaged in bubble wrap with sturdy cardboard backing. Like all dried plants, wheat is brittle. Some minor shedding of husks is normal with handling.
