Very RARE & one of a kind to survive, HUGE ANTIQUE COFFEE SHIPPING ADVERTISING CRATE from the NATIONAL GROCERY CO. COFFEE ROASTERS SEATTLE WASH (Washington) Seattle & Northwest being an unusual City & region to find represented by such an early advertising piece. Wonderful Country Primitive from the 19th century 1880's to 1910 era, the height of the Victorian Country Mercantile General Store growth period. Each side of the box is two board with the top having a center strip too. Heavy thick iron strap handles on each end. Heavy iron hinges. Everything is original (except the rafia handle somebody tied onto the lid which I'll leave) The front iron clasp is oddly screwed on crooked ~ adds a bit of charm ~ it too is original..you can tell how they pried it open, very cool. The back of the box has the best view of advertising. There is advertising on the front & sides, one side more visible, one side faded over time. It could be restored easily, re-inked, if desired since the letters impression is still there. Its bottom is thick & solid with only expected age wear; it appears to have always been stored indoors. This is a fabulous rustic primitive piece of General Store Americana for that country kitchen or versatile to use as a coffee table, blanket box, child's chest, hope chest, storage box, bathroom , porch display, tool box, garden room..lots & lots of uses. Great as well for display in a mercantile, cafe bistro or restaurant coffee table or display, coffee house table or museum. All wear & tear is age appropriate, authentic, original, some dust but still clean interior, everything going for it, likely the only Seattle Coffee box this large to have survived, selling directly from an early estate. 28.5 " long x 21.5 " deep or wide x 18.5 " tall Boxed, weighs about 41# Greyhound home delivery.
