Hand printed with etching ink on Somerset cotton rag paper, the drypoint Brimstone butterfly is from a larger body of work studying Devon Hedgerows. Each print is hand pulled by me. The printing plate is deliberately not square, after all, nothing in nature is square & I enjoy the quirkiness of slightly random shapes. The small perspex plate is inked with quality oil-based dark blue/green intaglio ink & printed with an etching press onto a 14 cm x 19cm piece of quality 300grm Somerset cotton paper. The print is signed, titled & numbered in pencil. It is from an edition of only 5 prints. Unlike a gicleé print or any other computer print out, none of my prints are reproductions of a pre-existing painting or drawing . I like to use top quality heavy weight paper (this one is Somerset 100% cotton, Velvet, 300gm) so It is best not to roll up prints for posting, especially when the printing process results in a fair amount of embossing.
