The chest is made of Tamarisk, also known as salt cedar, which is naturally pest repellent. The lid is affixed with two antique hinges, whose rust & hand forged hardware bear evidence to the age of the piece. Sourced from Morocco, this maritime treasure chest likely came originally from Spain or Portugal, as the ships sails display the Red Cross flags of the Spanish Armada.
