This fabric is 36 inches wide & there is only one yard of it. It is 100% cotton.. This fabric was hand woven in the highlands of Guatemala. The randon white design reminds me if ashes floating in the night sky. Pretty appropriate since volcanos abound in Guatemala. It is a finely woven textile that shows the skill of the Mayan weavers. It is medium weight & would work well for a home decor project or apparel. I don't know what it is about black & white ikats, but I do love them. It co-ordinates with almost anything & looks GREAT. This is an exceptionally good fabric. The weaving is finely done. It is said that the Mayan goddess Ixchel gave the gift of weaving to her people. It was an extraordinary gift. in Maya communities weaving is handed down from generation to generation. Children play in the room where their parents weave. They grow up learning the art from their parents.
