A fine & unusual 19th Century carved, gilded & lacquered chair. The chair in persimmon lacquer with an arched back has a large open work carved & gilt panel with figures & trees with a pagoda in the distance. The carving a strongly rendered with robust depth. The solid side panels are carved & gilded on both sides with figural decoration. The aprons with floral openwork gilt carving. The seat is pictorial with a black ground painted with a coy. Condition is very good with age appropriate wear. Circa: 1880. Dimensions: Height 41.5", Depth 19", Width 23".
