An outstanding original artist proof edition color serigraph (or hand-pulled silkscreen), by renowned Japanese-born American artist Mayumi Oda titled "Rain On The Bamboo Grove", dated 1971. Featuring a woman with combs in her hair, accentuating the power of her quiet & whimsical voluptuousness in the concept of the mother Goddess. This wonderful silkscreen & stencil print has the mark of a deep knowledge of color that is able to showcase with a vibrancy that is so difficult to master. It is no wonder that many people refer to Mayumi as the Matisse of Japan, for her craftsmanship echoes that of the later works of the great orientalist painters. Year: 1971 Edition: 25 Title: Rain On The Bamboo Grove This print: A/P (Artist Proof) The artwork is unframed, it is signed in pencil in the middle "artist proof"; titled "Rain On The Bamboo Grove" on the bottom left & artist's signature appears on the bottom right corner. About the artist: Born in 1941, in wartime & raised in post-war Japan, Mayumi Oda graduated in 1966 from Tokyo University of Fine Arts, then studied at Pratt Graphic Center in New York. She currently resides & works out of her studio in Gingerhill Farm, Hawaii. About the technique: Silkscreening, which was introduced around 1907, presses ink through a fine screen onto paper. A stencil of an image is placed on a taut screen with paper underneath. Ink is then spread on top & forced through the screen onto the paper with a squeegee. Unlike photo-offset, silkscreening allows the artist to vary the colors & patterns while printing. Condition: Please view all photos & take a note of the crinklings around the edges which are characteristics of the rice paper. Additionally, the soft crease in the middle is part of the artwork itself, which was experimentally conducted by the artist on this "artist proof" copy. Regardless, it's very minimal & perfectly blended into the big picture.
