DIGITAL PRINT Premium archival fine art paper - Moab Entrada Rag, Bright 300 GMS Aprox. 4500 x 5750 pixels (high resolution) This cityscape started from a series of photographs I did in San Francisco, while I was living in the Bay Area & studying photography. This buildings are located close to downtown, at North Beach, Little Italy. The Transamerica Pyramid is the tallest skyscraper in the San Francisco skyline. The Columbus Towers, also know as Sentinel Building, is an historic landmark, completed in 1907. Most of the building is occupied by the American Zoetrope, Francis Ford Coppola film studio, & the Cafe Zoetrope is on the ground level. The etching process main steps: 1. Copper plate is beveled & covered with a waxy hard ground, which is resistant to acid. 2. Lines are added to the plate, removing the hard ground with a needle, exposing the cooper. 3. Plate is exposed to acid, then the remaining hard ground is removed. 4. Plate is inked & the surface ink is removed, leaving only the etched lines. 5. Plate goes to the press, each print is hand pulled in a Rives BFK premium paper. Aquatint: 6. Plate is cleaned, degreased & the covered with rosin. 7. Rosin is meted in a hot plate. 8. Areas that will remain white should be protected either with hard ground, or Sharpie. 9. Plate is exposed to the acid in a much shorter periods of time (20 seconds for example), 10. Other areas are protected & the plate is exposed again, repeating this steps as many times as needed, until all the tonal range is achieved. 11. Plate is cleaned, inked & goes to the press again.
