Turned Maple Burl Natural Edge Bowl Size: Diameter 6 1/2" height 3 1/2" I turned this bowl several years ago at a time when I did attend many street craft shows. I kept it because I always liked it a lot. Turning the inside of a natural edge bowl is done thru the hole at the top. The trick is to make sure the tool does not touch when the lathe is spinning the natural edge of the the wood. On the side there was a bark enclosure which is normal for maple burl which I left open so you can see the unfinished inside of the bowl & even wall thickness. If the tool accidentally moves in the opening or touches the edge during the lathe spinning - the bowl will explode at the turning process - & this would be the end of it. I always enjoyed turning these kind of bowls since they are extremely decorative. & kind of a challenge to finish without destroying them . Turned Maple Burl Natural Edge Bowl
