This rare British Bee has delightfully pink pollen sacks due to its favourite flowers! This is a drypoint print of a Large Scabiour Bee (Andrena hattorfiana). This large, attractive mining bee is strongly associated with scabious flowers. The female mainly forages from the flowers of field scabious (Knautia arvensis - the pollen load being a characteristic salmon-pink colour). Hand printed in an edition limited to just 9 prints on a square of quality cotton paper. Each print is printed with a blend of etching inks with extra dabs of pink ink added each time. Here are a few facts about this bee:- They fly from late June to mid August Very local but widely distributed in southern England & south Wales. Generally encountered only in small numbers The presence of scabious flowers is a necessary requirement.
