Description

Jorgen Mogensen for Royal Copenhagen, Stoneware Bowl 21936, Modernist Scandinavian Design. This large & typically heavy centrepiece bowl by Jorgen Mogensen has a stunning repeat pattern or medallions, & in each of the 7 stamped medallions is an abstracted design of two birds intertwined. The stylised bird designs were one of Mogensens favourite motifs, & were inspired by a exhibition of Mexican artefacts he saw early in his career. The glaze used here is the beautiful "Sung" stoneware glaze (once fired only) which much of the stoneware designed in the Royal Copenhagen Stoneware Studio in the 1950s & 1960s used to stunning effect. Approx 27cm diameter x 5.5cm high x 2.3kg before packing - post expensive due to the weight & size. Like all of Mogensen's designs, it is a heavy, bold piece with thick walls & a great sense of mass, & an impressive display piece. Highly collectable & for the lover of Midcentury Danish Modernism Read more about the work of Jorgen Mogensen on my website: https://c20ceramics.net/2016/12/23/jorgen-mogensen-denmark/ Jorgen Mogensen Royal Copenhagen Denmark Large Stoneware Bowl 21936
