Design is created with colorful underglazes, using sgraffito technique. This original ceramic object is entirely hand-built & hand-painted using various underglazes & food-safe transparent glaze. At first I built the unicorn shape using fine terracotta clay. Once the softness of the clay had reached 'leather-hard' stage, I applied underglazes & drew as well as carved out the design, & then I let the piece get fully dry. Next, the decorated artwork went into the kiln to be bisque-fired at 1000 degrees Celsius. Then I added transparent glaze, & it went into the kiln again for the second firing. This beautiful, one of a kind ceramic artwork is very tactile, with carved lines against smooth transparent glazes, which add to it's charm. It will be a beautiful addition to your home decor.
