All of my small ceramic houses are hand built & made be me. Each is unique & no molds are used. This Orange & Black House has been Pit Fired. Pit firing is the oldest known method for the firing of pottery. Pots/Houses are nestled together in a pit in the ground & are surrounded by combustible materials such as wood, shavings, dried manure, leaves, & sometimes metal oxides & salts to affect the surface of the pots. The top of the pit may be protected with larger pieces of wood. The filled pit is then set on fire & carefully tended until most of the inner fuel has been consumed. After cooling, pots are removed & cleaned; there may be patterns & colours left by ash & salt deposits. My houses are then waxed using Mink Oil & buffed to create a sealed finish surface. The bottom of the house is left open & unfinished. The overall look & feel of the house is Rustic & Primitive. Small Pit Fired Orange & Black Ceramic Art House - Handmade Ceramics
