STATUE OF LIBERTY, Dark Grey (Large): Hand Painted Work on Paper Framed Signed Edition 50 Jason Oliva THE STORY: The STATUE OF LIBERTY, Dark Grey (Large) work on paper derives from my 2009 painting ART HISTORY. The painting consists of nine panels, each panel bearing a Statue that represents through its color nine periods in art history: Primitive, Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Impressionism, 70's Russian Pop Art, Pop Art & the final ninth panel - in this case, the Green Statue of Liberty - being my interpretation of the present day. I completed ART HISTORY in 2009 while living & working in England. It was bought by a collector in NYC, where it was shipped to in the same year. The painting is on permanent display at New York Vintners, Tribeca, NYC. STATUE OF LIBERTY is one of my most popular images & lhas been made into a work on paper in variations of Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, White & three variations of Grey. I wanted to offer multiple, smaller images of these works but not necessarily as a print, mainly because I felt that an image reproduced using machine technology would perhaps lack the individual & personal character found within the original.. But then I met James Rosenquist who opened my eyes to Arches Paper & I thought, 'Why not hand paint each one?' I love doing the work & everyone deserves an original painting. Most of the works on paper are directly based on an already sold Jason Oliva work on canvas. As a means of remaining true to the original, I not only hand paint each work on paper but I also use the same paints as those used in the original work on canvas, in order to capture the same vibrancy in color. Each work on paper is therefore as close to the original as possible & because each work is hand painted, not one work is the same.
