"Close to Home" is my new series that features warm neutral tones & organic shape & movement. This series has been inspired heavily by nature & the plants that I come across walking our property. Every subject has been collected within 500 yards from my front door... hence the title "Close to Home". My intention with this title is more than just the proximity of my inspiration. I have been thinking about this series for some time & knew that I wanted to focus on bringing minimalistic calming pieces into your homes. Pieces that are humble yet striking. Art that will fit right in with your ongoing collection & become part of the family. So, as I was dreaming of creating these warm minimal calming pieces to become part of a home... I was also collecting things on my walks here & bringing them into my own home. Sketching, carving, printing. Suddenly I realized that I was already in the process of beginning the series I had been dreaming about. When the series title came to me it felt like such a perfect form of fruition. "Close to Home" not only represents the fact that every subject in the series was collected close to my home, but I also feel that it conveys a little bit of my thought process as I created it. What makes a home? Is it just a feeling? How do we create that & share it? How is art & decor involved in that process? Can art help make a place feel like home? I believe the right pieces can absolutely do just that. This will be an ongoing series but I am releasing the first few pieces now in a small variety of colors. They are all printed with high quality printing inks on hand torn high quality Japanese paper. This paper is very special & has a soft almost velvet feel to it. The piece in this listing is 8x10 with dark brown paper & white ink & features a lady fern. All pieces are hand torn by me very carefully so they will fit easily into a frame. I collected the lady fern that inspired this print 105 yards from my front door. Please note that with all hand work there will be slight imperfections & differences, but pieces are chosen carefully to minimize this.
