Description
This lighthouse tealight holder is made using contemporary Raku technique. First I made the lighthouse on the pottery wheel using speciality Raku clay, carved & added details & fired the piece. After the biscuit firing I decorated it using speciality Raku glazes. Raku pieces are especially unique when it comes to glaze firing. Raku pieces are being heated up to 1800F & then pulled out the kiln using thongs & placed into a container full of combustibles. A lid is placed on tightly to reduce oxygen & the piece is left to cool. The conditions in which Raku pieces are produced are the reason this technique is so unpredictable when it comes to results. Please note that due to the nature of the firing schedule the glaze requires careful treatment. If you use chemicals or brushes to clean the item it may change color. Place it on the window ledge, mantel, coffee table, or side table. The lantern is suitable for indoor/outdoor use. Will work great with a tea light, led lights, flameless candles or on its own. SAFETY FIRST: Do not touch the body of the lantern when using it, it gets very hot. Let the lantern to cool after blowing the candle before moving it. Do not leave the burning candle unattended.
