Description

This is a stunning little jug for maritime lovers or green fingered gardeners! This fabulous pink luster jug was produced in Victorian England during the 1850 period. The lustre jug was made by one of the many pottery makers in the Sunderland area in the North East of England. This small pitcher features a wonderfully clear monochrome transfer printed design known as the 'Gardeners' Arms.' On larger jugs, the 'Gardeners Arms' name would be seen along the very bottom. Of course printing space is limited on small items. This is such a lovely printed scene, notice the beehive, garden implements & of course the seated lady in Regency era dress called 'Flora' with flag of Adam & Eve! The back of the jug features a lovely maritime poem titled 'Thou noble bark'. This is the perfect piece for anyone who loves early ceramics, gardening, lustreware or anyone with a connection to the coast. It's amazing to think this lovely little jug is almost 200 years old! Measuring: Width including handle 5 7/8 inch (15 cm) by height 4 ¼ inch (10.5 cm). Condition: Very good with natural crazing to glaze commensurate with age.
