Somewhere around 130 million years ago, an enormous chunk of land half the size of Australia broke from the land that became Antarctica & drifted over years & years to rest in the South Pacific Ocean. For centuries it's been home to thousands of species of plants & animals that are not found anywhere else in the world. With volcanic mountains that reach nearly 4,000 feet above sea level & neighboring trenches digging 33,000 feet deep into the ocean floor, this collection of islands sits atop what remains of its own microcontinent, & was one of the last lands of the world to be inhabited by humans. This strange & wonderful land is New Zealand. This is an original, layered papercut piece, handmade in Minnesota, in your choice of color, & featuring the topographic & bathymetric details of New Zealand. This unique piece is intricately cut from eight layers of high quality, acid-free cardstock. The top four land layers are in gradual shades of grass green (or your choice of another color set), while the four layers underneath are in ever-darker shades of aqua blue (or your choice, again of another color set). Because this piece is handmade, it will differ very slightly from piece pictured here. The back is titled, signed & dated as an original piece. The work measures 8 x 10 inches (about 20 x 25 cm), & is about 1/4" thick at the highest peaks. It will be sent to you carefully wrapped & supported to ensure it arrives safely. These pieces frame beautifully, & I recommend using a mat or double mat to give the piece a little breathing room from the glass & further enhance the sense of depth in the piece.
