Description

Based on a 14th century jug from medieval England, this little vessel would make a rather nice vase for flowers. It is watertight & food safe though ~ so go ahead if you had another use in mind. Please note: Every pot has its own unique complexion, please look carefully at the photos & be sure that you love it for those differences. The film clip show above is merely & example of my work & does not feature this specific pot. How I made it: Each of my pots are handmade from earthenware clay. Pottery is a family trade, which I have learnt from my mother. I finish my pots with a clear coat of lead free glaze & fire them in an electric kiln. My potter's wheel isn't electric, instead it is powered by the push of my foot. This means that I have subtle control over the speed & a strong right leg ~ I do try to mix it up but find it distracting to use my left. It was my mother's wheel & she taught me to throw on it. The potter's wheel has been around since at least classical times, it is referenced in Homer's Odyssey "nimbly, quick as a crouching potter spins his wheel, palming it smoothly, giving it practice twirls to see it run." I think it is a fun quote. Please note: The film clip show above is merely & example of my work & does not feature this specific pot. Delivery: I use recycled materials for my packaging & decorations. If you have hay fever please tell me! When I run out of other packaging materials I use hay, it's totally ecological & economical, moreover I love the way it looks & smells. Just so you're in the loop, I pay £8 to post parcels within the UK ~ that is the approximate cost of a tracked first class parcel. Outside of the uk prices vary. in the EU I normally manage to swallow the extra costs, but sadly to Canada, Australia & the USA it costs me £22 at least to ship! I will have to fill in a customs form for all international parcels. This is then stuck to the parcel & says what is inside. If there is a secret inside, keep this in mind. I can gift wrap the pot again, with a blank label & brown paper & string if you like & then the outside box can be removed without revealing the gift. Sizes: I have giant clients & pixie clients, hence the myriad of sizes I sell. I don't measure every piece, simply because this takes a while & listing my work is a computer job I don't like to spend too much time on. If you need to know an exact size please contact me. A small shed on a big hill: My pottery is a little garden shed ~ only about three meters squared! I named it Karn Kreft. Karn is a word with Celtic roots, describing a hill topped with rocks (my workshop is on one of these) & 'kreft' is the Cornish word for craft & trade. The lettering (Ꮶᚤᚱᚢ ᏦᚱΣᚨᚾ) I designed in the style of ancient runic writing, because history inspires my work. I have an instagram, facebook page & youtube channel where I share films I make from my pottery. I studied filmmaking at college & like to keep my hand in! Links: Youtube:
