Description

A good Christmas gift for graphic designers or a gift for small business owners - something to remind them to hold their standards high & not cave to demanding or unrealistic clients & customers. Letterpress design & printing has been having a resurgence lately & is often highly valued by designers, & gaining respect among the general public as well as a unique analog artform. This unframed 8x10" typographic wall art letterpress print was hand printed in my small, rural studio in two passes: one for the background graphic & a second for the dark grey letters. The 8x10" print was hand-crafted on nice, heavy acid-free vellum bristol with a little bit of surface tooth. Each print is unique with subtle variations as lovely reminders of a hand-made process, & I especially love the slightly transparent dark grey ink that deepens a bit where it overlaps the colored ink underneath. I made these as a reminder to not be held to unrealistic expectations by ourselves or by clients or by customers. Most projects are done "under the circumstances," a great lesson an old professor taught me. So, let's be honest & kind with ourselves & our clients: you can only do so much, choose two... The background image is a mid-century retail price wood block - It's actually a 66¢ but I flipped it to make it ¢99, as a reminder that working as a creative always has a commercial aspect to it & will always be imperfect. & I intentionally mixed the type in "pick 2" as a visual reminder of compromise in all projects whether from clients, budgets, time, or energy. These unframed designs are printed at 8x10" on an acid-free Vellum Bristol which I really like. Made in a limited run of 45, & you choose the green or magenta background print version. I hope you like it as much as I do & find it inspiring! I think it would make a cool piece for your own workspace or great artist gift for men or women, professional artists or students, small business owners, & more! ➽ WHY I LOVE LETTERPRESS PRINTING Letterpress prints give an affordable way to buy a genuine, original work of art either for yourself or as a unique gift! & letterpress decor can also be a great conversation piece - a way of introducing others to this art form from the invention of printing - my prints are crafted using the same basic techniques as those very first movable type prints from the 1400s! Letterpress printing is a historic, artisan was introduced to Europe by Johannes Gutenberg around the year 1450. This printing method used small, cast pieces of metal for each letter which are locked into a layout, inked, & pressed onto paper. This process launched the spread of literature in Europe & ultimately formed the foundation for modern graphic design. Contemporary letterpress is valued for its handmade & visually distinct, tactile qualities from the analog process. Letterpress requires careful attention throughout, but I love this slow, meditative design process. I find joy in the ritual of making. I hope you will
