Glyptodonts roamed the land during the Pleistocene & late Pliocene 10, 000-1.8 million years ago. They were the size & shape of a VW car with a shell that weighed in excess of 1, 000 pounds. The shell or body armor was made up of thousands of scutes. These scutes are known for having what looks like a flower pattern on them. in some scutes you can see small holes that hair follicles once grew through. A truly unique fossil! Spike scutes come from the edge of the shell & the tail of the animal.
