Description
The commemorative coin of the National Bank of Ukraine "IVAN PIDDUBNYI - Champion of Champions" in the denomination of 2 hryvnias (in a capsule), is a part of the series "Outstanding Personalities of Ukraine" & is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the famous athlete, six-time world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling Ivan Piddubnyi. The "champion of champions", "king of champions", as the European press of the time wrote about him, became famous for his heroic strength, courage, agility & fortitude. A descendant of a Cossack family, he gained legendary fame as an athlete, & his name became a symbol of the indomitable strength of the Ukrainian people. Description of the coin: On the obverse of the coin are placed: above - the inscriptions "УКРАЇНА / 2021", below which is the small State Emblem of Ukraine, in the center - a stylized composition in the form of a medal with a ribbon depicting the globe, around which are the inscriptions "УКРАЇНСЬКИЙ БОГАТИР" & "ЧЕМПІОН ЧЕМПІОНІВ"; the denomination of the coin is "2 ГРИВНІ" (below on a mirror background) & on both sides of the central composition are stylized wrestling scenes; the logo of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint (below right). The reverse of the coin features a portrait of Ivan Piddubnyi on a mirror background, with the years of his life 1871-1949 to the right & the inscription "ІВАН ПІДДУБНИЙ" (semicircle to the right).
