Rare brooch, signed ART© (Arthur Pepper) - 1950 This lovely pin covers several areas of collecting designer brooches, Language of Flowers, Victorian / Edwardian, Enamel Jewelry, pins & brooches, & lastly Suffragette jewelry. in my opinion, as a woman, the Suffragette qualities are the most important, after that.... the Victorian Language of Flowers violets. Violets could have several meanings modesty, faithfulness, loyalty & love. Vi William Wadsworth mentions violets in the poem ... "She Dwelt Among the Untrodden Ways". Shakespeare in a " Midsummer's Night Dream." in Greek mythology, a violet sprung up sprung up in the spot where a weary Orpheus laid down his lyre. The suffragette colors of the time were purple, green & white. This is a lovely corsage like brooch with a bouquet of violet flowers & leaves Is a fabulous display of a bouquet of violets The group of gilded stems, gathered in a group by a string that is also gilded, support the seven violet flowers made of molded glass in two shades of purple, the petals are made with an abundance of detail, realistically forming the flower & each one is centered by a small clear sparkling crystal Small light green enameled leaves peep out among the violets Beautifully crafted, a treat for the eyes The brooch is ART© (Arthur Pepper) signed, to late 1950's The brooch is closed by a fully functional safety clasp setting. it is cm.5,7 (2-1/4") tall & is cm.3.5 (1-3/8") at its widest point the brooch has a delicate weight of 14 grams On back shows the ART© signature The brooch is in excellent condition , the flowers are in immaculate condition, the small rhinestones sparkle & shine, the gold tone plating is clean & shiny, the enamel on the leaves is intact...except one little leaf is without enamel...maybe they forgot to enamel it?? who knows It is so sweet!
