Step 1: Watercolour brushes should be immersed in warm or room temperature water. It should not be soaked for too long until the nib is completely open & the gelatine at the root of the pen should not melt, otherwise it will become a 'drip pen' & the bristles will easily fall off. Step 2: Before writing, the brush needs to be slightly moistened. As long as the brush is wetted with ink, it cannot be painted or written with. This is done by moistening the brush with water before lifting it. Do not soak it for a long time so that the glue at the root of the brush does not dissolve. Then hang the brush upside down until the tip is flexible, which takes about a few minutes. The brushes must be dry when stored. If the bristles are not wet, you can draw or write with your hands. The bristles will become brittle & inflexible. Step 3: Calligraphy or painting. To obtain an even result & to allow the ink to penetrate the brush, it is necessary to wipe off the water & then gently drag the brush onto absorbent paper until it is completely dry. "Dry" means not completely dry. Less or more ink is not good for writing & painting. Maintenance. 1. Immediately after painting, rinse the brush under running water. 2. 2. After washing, wipe off any excess water & then straighten. Then hang the brush on the brush holder & allow the remaining water to continue dripping until it is completely dry. Care should be taken to shade & dry the brush to retain its original shape & characteristics. Drying is the key to preserving your brushes.
