Description

Bring a touch of mid-century modern design to your home with this Pierre Jeanneret inspired 3 seater kangaroo bench. Originally designed for the General Hospital & private homes in Chandigarh in 1955, this low three-seat banquette is not only unique but also incredibly comfortable. It features a solid reclaimed teakwood frame with braided canework detailing on the seat & backrest, & three slanted & profiled legs in the front. The slightly curved backrest, seat, & legs are seamlessly connected to form a horizontal 'Z' shape. Our bench is handmade by local craftsmen in India with the highest respect for the original design. The reclaimed teakwood used has a greater resistance to warping than naturally aired new timber, making it a more sustainable choice for your home. We also use long strands of cane which results in fewer knots & is a very resilient material. This bench pays homage to the original design & is available in various finishes as per client request. The hallmark of Jeanneret's work is his brilliant understanding & acute sensitivity to the use of materials. He worked with them in a manner that didn't make them yield to his will but rather brought out their innate beauty. in the early 1950s, Jeanneret joined his cousin in Chandigarh, India, where they embarked on a massive urban-planning project, laying out the city & designing low-cost buildings & furniture. Though Corbusier abandoned the project halfway through, Jeanneret remained for 15 years as the project's chief architect. The city remains a masterpiece of the modern vision.
