Description

I am offering this exquisite & rare, gorgeous "Dancing Pair" manufactured by the Nymphenburg Porzellan Manufaktur located in Bavaria, Germany after the Frankenthal models by Johann Friedrich Lueck of 1760, each depicted poised with arms outstretched, the female dancer in layered pannier skirts decorated with flowers; the male dancer in a short wide tonnelet, all on rocaille-molded bases... These two figures were originally designed as part of a table centerpiece (surtout de table). The female figurine, after paintings by Nicolas Lancret, depict either the Parisian ballerina, Marie-Anne de Cupis de Camargo or Marie Salle.... For an eighteenth-century example of the male figurine, see the British Museum, accession no. 1923,0314.92.CR... Stamped markings on each base consisting of the impressed Nymphenburg shield along with impressed numbers 1213 on the male & 1212 on the woman..the female woman in blue ink 1956, also has the blue painted crowned CT monogram mark...the male in blue ink 1057 has the blue standing lion.. Light signs of previous use should be expected consistent with age - previously owned & seems to be stored in a curio cabinet & well cared for - The Male figurine seems to be in excellent condition, I see one obvious issue on the female figurine - she lost half of her ribboning on front.. Literature: Johann Friedrich Lueck (1727-1797) was a renowned sculptor, active at Frankenthal between 1758 & 1764... He was previously a model-maker at Meissen & Hoechst.
