Description
This awe-inspiring santo or santos depicts Mary as the Mater Dolorosa or Sorrowful Mother. She is presented wearing billowing clothes. The sculptor has rendered this statue with such mastery & drama; most evident in her strong face & in the folds of her clothes. The statue is probably from Guatemala or from Mexico & dates from the 1700's or so. It is in good condition for its age but she is missing her hands & she has been mounted on a newer base. There is also old traces & signs of insect bores. She measures 18.75" tall, 8.5" wide, & 6" deep. Please note the crown is NOT INCLUDED in this listing & is only a prop.
