This is a very special plush toy sample from one of the most influential toys & collectibles. This is a ONE OF A KIND item. You won't see another like this anywhere! What is a prototype or sample? After a product is designed, the creator sends her design to a factory to bring his idea to life. A designer takes the artist's initial drawings & brings it into 3D form. If the creator likes what she sees, she takes that product to various trade shows to display to large companies who have an interest in carrying her toy line. At this point the prototype becomes a "sample" that the buyer can pick up & touch, though in-effect a prototype & a sample are usually used interchangeably. Prototypes are the rarest form of the toy. They often have differences in design & color, & many will carry special tags. Some are only partially finished, with "drawn on" features to show what the original piece will look like. After the designer sells large quantities of their design to companies, the product goes to the manufacturing stage. This can be months, sometimes years after the item is designed! Often, the manufactured example is different than the prototype in key ways. This piece comes from a very large & special collection of prototypes from the company KAMAR, one of the most important plush manufacturers in America during the decades of the 1960's to the early 1990's. The collection was stored away for many years. I was lucky enough to acquire the collection from PK Kamar's son & daughter-in-law so that we could work together to give you a unique piece of American toy history. Prototypes are awesome investments! Because they are so rare, & essentially one of a kind, they hold their value through the years, & at times appreciate rapidly as new collectors enter the market.
