Description: A ceramic Bacchus figurine designed by Danish sculptor Kai Nielsen (1882-1924) for Bing & Grondahl. The figure, Bacchus, reaches backwards towards a bunch of grapes. Made in Denmark, the figurine is marked "KAI NIELSEN" & is also marked with the Bing & Grondahl maker's mark to the underside. Kai Nielsen attended the Copenhagen Art Academy for sculpting & was quickly noticed by the Danish National Gallery, which acquired one of his early pieces. He also made statuettes for Bing & Grondahl & H.A. Kähler. Measurements: 4" W x 9.5" H x 4" D Condition: Signs of wear to the underside. Some inconsistencies in the glaze application on the hands.
