250 Greek fir seeds . Abies cephalonica or Greek fir is a fir native to the mountains of Greece, intergrading with the closely related Bulgarian fir further north in the Pindus mountains of northern Greece. It is a medium-size evergreen coniferous tree growing to 25-35 metres (82-115 ft) tall & with a trunk diameter of up to 1 m (3 ft). The leaves are needle-like, flattened, 1.5-3.0 cm (0.6-1.2 in) long & 2 mm (0.08 in) wide by 0.5 mm (0.02 in) thick, glossy dark green above, & with two blue-white bands of stomata below. The tip of the leaf is pointed The cones are 10-20 cm (4-8 in) long & 4 cm (1.6 in) broad. It is also grown as an ornamental tree in parks & large gardens. Growing & sowing instruction: Scarification: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours. Stratification: The seeds have only shallow natural dormancy & require only a short period of cold stratification ( 6 - 8 weeks) to enable germination to occur. The seeds mixed with a little clean,damp sand or damp vermiculite & placed in a clear plastic bag at temperatures between 3-5 Celsius (37-41 Fahrenheit) which is about the temperatures found in your fridge. Germination: sow seed 1/4" deep. Keep them at room temperature - around 20 celsius. Once the seedlings appear above the compost give them plenty of light. Germination will begin a few weeks from sowing. The seedlings are reasonably robust & trouble free & usually grow to a height of between 2 & 5 cm in the first growing season. Developing seedlings should be fine in full sun, keep them well watered & free of competing weeds. Growth will accelerate in the second & subsequent years. After perhaps 3 years they are ready to be planted in their permanent position. All seeds that I sell are collected personally by me from the region in which I live - Southeastern Bulgaria.
