Here is a wonderful plate showing a single complete Graptolite, & a partial large second graptolite. Species Phyllograptus from the early (lower) Ordovician, about 475 million years ago. Long before the first dinosaur. From the Filllmore Formation, Presbynelius Zone, in the Southern House Range, Utah. The complete graptolite is about 1.38". The other partial graptolite looks to have been much larger. The plate is about 5.1 inches at the longest measurement (varies). It weighs 10.85 oz. Graptolites were tiny extinct colony-making animals that shared the same skeleton. Each animal made its own living space, then stuck with other like animals to make the colony. The colonies had various shapes such as what you see here. Others made what look like tiny saw blades, & some looked like corkscrews. Graptolites became extinct about 320 million years ago. Signature upon delivery: We may decide it is best to put a "Signature Required" on a shipment, of any size or price. If it is important to you that you do, or do not, want to receive a Signature Required, please let us know at time of purchase. Any item over $200, you can expect a Signature required. Return Policy: If you are not satisfied with your item, please contact us within 72 hours of receiving the item.
