Striking folk art from Eastern Europe - a peek-a-boo puppet featuring a female fan / scarf dancer. All hand made, from fabulously detailed costume, braided hair, & sweetly painted face. Her head appears to be wood, & the base I believe is clay. She maneuvers as a puppet by sliding up & down on a thin metal rod, alternately appearing & disappearing into the cone that is the lower half of her costume. About 14" in overall height when extended & sitting on base About 4.25" diameter base The bottom of the base is covered with intact felt. Everything about this piece is in wonderful vintage condition with no tears or looseness to fabric. There is a tiny bit of chippy spots on base. The only "issue" might be that she often sits with a bit of a tilt while on her stand. Sometimes she stands up straight! The origin is not indicated.
