This teak monkey was one of a series or set of three figures; they other two were a prehistoric man & woman. All are very hard to find. He's marked "Chris Vejle Denmark" on the bottom of one foot. I had one of the prehistoric woman figures awhile back: https://www.etsy.com/listing/741996869/rare-chris-vejle-denmark-teak-figure? This ape has small, close-set eyes of black glass. His hair is rabbit fur. His lips have the pursed look that chimpanzees do a lot. I am not sure how the lips were made-maybe hand-carved with some delicate drum sanding to smooth them out? They're so perfect & tiny! His arms & tail are made of composite leather which can get very dried out with age, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. There's just enough flexibility that he can hold the end of his tail. It's probably best to leave it like that, thoughno need to tempt fate! His head is strung with elastic so that you can turn it easily in both directions. No scratches or dings in the wood.
