AFRO MID SHAPES A3 size, signed, open edition, hand-pulled screen-print. Afro Mid Shapes was inspired by two of my favourite design styles - mid century modern & African patterns. It was hand screen-printed in two layers. To create the first one I cut a stencil from paper & used this directly with the meshed screen (photo 6). I printed this with subtle yellow & pink inks at the same time, which created the yellow/pink gradient. To print the second black colour layer I exposed the Afro Mid Shapes image/pattern to a meshed screen, then printed this over the top of the gradient first layer. Photo 7 shows the screen with the exposed image ready to print. I've made two different colour versions of Afro Mid Shapes. I chose colours based on ones from a lovely paint catalogue. Photo 5 shows both colour prints & photo 4 test prints I made during the colour mixing process. The print fits perfectly into an A3 size off-the shelf frame as shown in the main listing photo in a white frame & in photo 9 in a black frame.
