Description

A gorgeous set of Japanese Imari style porcelain from the 1960s or possibly early 1970s. Marked ACF Japanese Porcelain Ware Decorated in Hong Kong. The deep ball is 6 inches wide & 2 1/2 inches high. The design is a lotus flower with five sculpted & ribbed petal shapes creating a scalloped design around the edge of the bowl. The bowl has a small raised foot typical of this design. The dish is 5 1/2 inches wide by 1 1/8 inch high. It's unclear to me whether or not the bowl is meant to be displayed inside of the dish...but they are part of a set with the same artwork & glaze. Both pieces feature cranes in flight or standing in & among lotus flowers. The design is a typical Japanese Imari design with rusty reds & deep blues with salmon colored accents. The hand-painted detail is very fine with a lot of crosshatching & slip decoration. These two pieces are very heavy for their size. The bowl when pinged... makes an intense bell like sound. The shallow dish also has a clear bell tone. The glaze is extremely shiny & with no obvious flaws. The bowl seems to have a small indentation along the edge that is most likely a manufacturing flaw. There is glaze in this small indentation which indicates this was part of the manufacturing process.
