Here is a original vintage Plein air Scene of the ' The Three Sisters' Row houses in Charleston, South Carolina. If you're a Charleston local or just a visitor, there's a great chance you've noticed the row of happy-colored houses that stand downtown. Here is some info about them : " A popular Charleston urban legend ' the Three Sisters'. The three houses at 23, 25, & 27 Meeting Street are referred to as the Three Sisters. Built from 1760 to 1800, they are known as sisters due to their similar architectural styles. The story goes that the houses were built by a wealthy Charleston father for his three daughters, who were so ugly that he figured they would never marry. One sister was a blond, one a brunette, & one a redhead. While this is an intriguing tale, there is no evidence that it is a historical fact." Source: Charleston Mythbusters I just saw these a few days ago as I was in Charleston & bought this from a local dealer there. It is painted in canvasboard with oils & framed in its original oak wood frame. The entire piece measures 20 1/2 x 26 5/8 in. & canvasboard only measures 18 x 24 in. It is in good as is vintage condition with a bend at the board at the top middle that looks like someone taped it up from behind many decades ago. It has a few scrapes at the bottom , on right side, one left but otherwise fine. I was particularly drawn to the bright colors & modernist style of the painting. Unfortunately it is unsigned or dated but from the age of the canvasboard I would place it in the 1950s time period. A truly special piece of art from Charleston South Carolina, a huge tourist destination for may people around the world. I have a few other Charleston South Carolina paintings in my shop.
