EDWARD P. PAUL & COMPANY (EPP&CO) was once the largest importer of ceramics & housewares on the east coast. They opened their doors in 1898 in Brooklyn New York & eventually had a very large warehouse in NJ. Most of their goods were made in Italy (glassware) & Japan (ceramics & porcelain) some was made in Germany, France & even Czechoslovakia. It was transported by ship in large wooden crates packed with hay/straw. The company had several product lines of quality including a higher end line they called paul Lux that mirrored the fancy French China of the 1940's & 50's. For the most part they had a middle of the road line that was sold in many large older department stores as well as privately owned mom & pop houseware shops across the United States. All these items were mass produced overseas with very limited quality control for those times. This helped keep cost down to help them turn a profit. You will always notice sloppy hand painting of details & very minor ceramic defects yet still their items were quite nice & made fantastic decorations throughout people's homes. You may remember seeing them in your parents or grandparents home growing up. I can remember seeing so many of the items that I am selling from the EPP& CO. in my grandparent's home in my grandfather's houseware store (Krieger's Housewares & Gifts) & in all the big department stores as a child. Hong Kong Old has been fortunate enough to have found an extremely large holdings of the original crates filled with EPP&Co. merchandise that had been rescued from there now defunct warehouse. It has all been produced in the 1920's through the 1960's & sat untouched until it was rescued. Most of EPP&CO. merchandise has an Identifying sticker that says Edward P. Paul & Co. 1898 or Paul's gifts, sometimes the items are embossed with the word "PAULS" or painted with PAULUX. Vintage Dime Store Resin Statue Madana With Child Edward P Paul & Company
