The energy released by an immense meteorite impact in what is now the Libyan desert, west of the Nile melted created this beautiful material in the same way that the Nordlingen-Ries crater created moldavite 15 million years ago. LDG is found in the remote desert. Even today, it takes many days to reach this remote area from the nearest oasis.
