Description

This Benjamin Franklin Rebus is titled, "The Art of Making Money Plenty in Every Man's Pocket" by Dr. Franklin. I learned that Benjamin Franklin was awarded an honorary doctorate for his scientific accomplishments in the understanding of electricity in 1759 & then referred to himself as Dr. Franklin. It is in nice 1930's-1940's vintage condition. A rebus is a puzzle that uses words with pictures to write the story. I noticed that someone had covered the Rebus in some sort of plastic wrap. I'm not sure why since it was protected in the frame as well. There are some small spots of color loss on the paper & a small tear on the left bottom side. The criss-cross wood frame has incised lines & where the corners cross there is a porcelain button. There is a sliver of wood missing on one of the edges of the extended cross pieces. I also saw that the glass is not a perfect fit in the frame & shifts to leave a very narrow gap on one side. The porcelain buttons have some irregularities & spots of discoloration. The backing is a piece of old wood & has the "solution" to the Rebus taped to it which looks like it was typed on an old typewriter. The outside dimensions of the frame are 12 1/4 in. wide by 15 3/8 in. high. It holds a 9 in. by 12 1/8 in. print.
