-The earliest piece that I have ever found, this leather wrapped trunk is a fantastic example of a pre hardware latch trunk. According to me research the trunk could be as early as 1850s but most like 1870s. The lid was held closed with leather straps rather then steel latches. Both end handles are intact. The inside is clothes covered & does have a musty smell. Has an incredible shipping tag from Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Railroad. Dated 188 with a blank digit for the last year. Very easy to read & in tact tag. -Would have had a tray inside. Has some pieces of the original leather straps also inside. Wood bottom. The trunk overall is very solid. Displays very well.
