scales used by ancient pharmacists ,Decorative cast iron scale Up for sale is Antique 19 th Century Islamic Ottoman Empire Balance Beam Steelyard Scale. The pan & the arm have inscriptions in Ottoman letters, coat of arms of the Ottoman Empire, & a year according to the Hijri calendar in Ottoman numerals on the arm - 1282 or 1283 (not clear) which is 1865/66 AD. The balance weight is 100 gr. Probably it was made somewhere in the Levant & not in the territory which is a modern day Turkey. It is unknown to me whether the main parts are made of brass or bronze; the chain is an iron no doubt. It looks like it is a complete set that forms this unique item. old style new build Condition: Used & in relatively good condition, It wasn't cleaned or polished apart from few cm of the arm & offered for sale AS-IS (please see pics).
