Description
Illinois fluorite of deep shades of clear yellow with a mottling of violet fluorite just on the surface. The crystals are cubic in form, with hillocked 'cityscape' surface textures, & very nice luster. The base of the piece consists of clear yellow fluorite & a section of the original limestone host rock. Many of the larger crystal corners appear to have been cleaved naturally, but then experienced a remarkable resurgence of crystal growth, with a partial regeneration of the cleaved corners! These regenerating corners are like windows into the clear interior, have unusual & very interesting structure, & present some incredible rainbow prisms! The specimen as a whole has many surfaces & inclusions of bitumen which are not readily visible in normal light, but fluoresce yellow in long wave UV light. The bitumen is observable with UV light over the entire specimen. Comes from the famous, now-closed fluorite collecting sites at Cave-In-Rock, Illinois. Measures 4.75 x 4.25 x 2.5 inches.
