Description

A large hand crafted pottery vase made by Northwest potters & artists Betty & Nelson Mears of Tacoma, Washington. They studied ceramics under F Carlton Ball in the late 1960's & went on to exhibit their pottery, watercolors & oil paintings at various Northwest Craft shows in the 1960's to 1980's era. Betty also taught watercolor classes for a number of years out of her home studio in NE Tacoma. This unique oversized vase was hand thrown & glazed with a white frothy drip glaze along with a pale brown glaze on the surface. The natural stoneware clay shows in the unglazed areas of the surface of the vase. It measures 9" tall by 9" wide & has good weight to it. The base is hand signed MEARS in large letters by Betty. The condition is nice & original on this large stoneware vase. We note slight thinness in the glaze in places as made. A great pottery vase for your Northwest studio pottery collection.
