While the boundaries of the states are close, they are rounded to help the laser cut the wood appropriately & allow for the states to best fit together. 2. Smaller states are lumped together; otherwise the pieces would be too small & easily lost. 3. Like any puzzle, these pieces are small & could be a choking hazard.
