USS Laboon DDG-58 "Without Fear" Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer USS Laboon (DDG-58) is an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer & named for Father John Francis Laboon (1921-1988), a captain in the Chaplain Corps of the United States Navy, who was awarded the Silver Star during World War II. The USS Laboon was built by Bath Iron Works & commissioned on 18 March 1995. in the fall of 1996, she fired Tomahawk missiles at targets in Iraq, thus becoming the first Arleigh Burke-class destroyer to engage in combat. MacGregor, Jr. was born in Medfield, MA, the son & grandson of Norfolk Hunt Club kennel masters. Many of his family members were self-taught artists, woodcarvers, automobile mechanics & veterans of foreign wars including his father a WW1 US Army veteran. Bill is a graduate of Medfield High School, Wentworth Institute, & Northeastern University. His engineering career, from which he is now retired, included working for military & aerospace companies in industrial engineering & IR optics. His painting incorporates "old skool" mechanical & civil drafting tools & he uses a mixed medium of watercolors, acrylics & inks. Two rabbits are often in quite a few of his paintings. Look for them. He is frequently commissioned by United States Naval officers to create paintings of their ships & aircraft carriers on nautical charts. in May,2018, & for one year, four of Bill's automotive related paintings were on display at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, MA .
