DETAILS An antique, Mecklenburg-Strelitz type plate in soft paste porcelain, with a scalloped edge, hand painted with an exotic bird in the center surrounded by floral garlands & Mazarine blue reserves with gilt butterflies, moths & insects. Made in the style of the original royal service with a variant rim. STYLE Rococo REFERENCE See the The Royal Trust Collection for examples of the original service. The Mecklenburg-Strelitz service was commissioned by King George III & Queen Charlotte, & presented to her brother, Adolphus Frederick IV, Duke of Mecklenberg-Strelitz in 1763. It was well received & following the success Chelsea released a duplicate set. To distinguish it from the original service, Chelsea created this variant rim with concave edge to the Mazarine blue reserve as seen on this plate. See Ref: P-57-0006 for the original style of rim.
